Our Story

At Graybar Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Centers, we believe health is your greatest asset. Rather than treating disease after it appears, we focus on improving your health to reduce pain and illness in the first place.

Our chiropractors are among only a handful in the state specializing in Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) — one of the most scientific, published, and researched corrective-care techniques in the chiropractic profession. CBP goes beyond temporary relief: by systematically realigning the spine to its ideal structure, we address the underlying source of pain, headaches, fatigue, and countless other symptoms.

With three convenient locations in Wilmington, Clinton, and Wallace, we serve families throughout eastern North Carolina with a full spectrum of care — from advanced spinal correction and decompression to MLS laser therapy and core rehabilitation technology. Dr. Michael Graybar

Dr. Michael Graybar

Founder / DC

After traveling from coast to coast, Dr. Michael Graybar has been a North Carolina resident almost 30 years. He grew up in East Brunswick, New Jersey and attended St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen. Dr. Graybar graduated from The University of Scranton in May 1991 with a B.S. in Biology. While at the university, he played soccer and captained the Scranton Royals to a #12 National Ranking in Men's Soccer, Division III during his senior year. After graduation, he attended the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (L.A.C.C.) and graduated with Dean's List Honors in December 1994. Dr. Graybar began his chiropractic practice in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1995 and is an active member of the North Carolina Chiropractic State Association.

Family, Faith, and Friends are a staple of the Graybar Family. Dr. Graybar met his wife Tracey while he was in Chiropractic School in Los Angeles and got married the following year. Officially, there are 7 children for the Graybar's. Tyler, Sarah, Ryan, Kenny, Madison, Jack, and CJ. The older six have all graduated from high school and many have graduated from colleges. As of March 2023, our son Jack has enlisted with the US ARMY and the family couldn't be more Proud.

Athletics and Sports remain a huge part of our family. Dr. Graybar served as the head coach for Wallace Rose Hill Men's Soccer from 2009-2018. During this time, "Coach Graybar" would lead the bulldogs to state championship in 1A soccer in 2013, 2014 and 2016.

These are Dr. Graybar's comments on his chiropractic graduate work: "My chiropractic education in Los Angeles was fantastic! It was an amazing experience spending four years of my life in L.A., but I am glad to be back on the East Coast. I always get asked about my education and the truth is the chiropractic curriculum is almost a mirror image to a Medical University during the first two years of schooling. The major difference occurs in the third year when the focus shifts to "chiropractic holistic philosophy and spinal manipulation" instead of pharmaceuticals-drug therapy. This was the favorite part of my entire education. I got to understand the cause and effect of "health and wellness" rather than to numbing or masking the symptoms with medications. L.A.C.C. prepared me to be the "complete doctor" and this is the concept I try to bring into the clinical setting every day.

Dr. Graybar is in great standing with the North Carolina Chiropractic Association and is presently completing his fellowship with his son, Ryan (presently a third-year student @ Sherman Chiropractic) in Pediatrics. This is a two-year fellowship offered through International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). "I am excited to expand the degree and enhance the health of our community."

DC / Chiropractor

Dr. Maryann Luxeder was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Clinton, North Carolina from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the spring of 2007. Dr. Luxeder has been the clinic director of the Clinton – Graybar Chiropractic office since it opened in 2008. A career in the medical field was always a dream of hers. Being accepted to a Physical Therapy Assisting program was just the beginning. However, due to complications of an auto accident, the field of chiropractic was suggested to her as a source of relief and healing. Her new career journey had her returned to the classroom this time at Kent State University taking night classes while still working 40 hours a week. Dr. Luxeder, obtained the required courses needed to become admitted to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Palmer College is where the entire profession of Chiropractic began and so to return to her passions birth place was the only place for her to go. On June 17, 2005, she graduated with her Doctor of Chiropractic degree. While attending Palmer she was on the Presidents List and an ambassador of the president's office to guide new students as they began their chiropractic journey. While in school, she had acquired enough credits to finish her education early however she chose to remain on campus and work in a nearby chiropractic office to gain even more experience taking care of patients. By doing so she was offered the unique opportunity to participate in the Clinic Abroad program. This program provided her with chiropractic care experience of travel and providing care to the wonderful people in the most impoverished areas of India. This ten day trip changed her life by showing her just how important chiropractic is to the health and wellbeing of all those around the world.

Since moving to Clinton in 2007 Dr. Luxeder has experienced the warm and open arms of the wonderful people in the community. "Clinton and Sampson County has taught me the wonder of an extended family". "Even though mine is miles away, this wonderful community feels like home". Outside of her work in the clinic, Dr. Luxeder also volunteers in her church as one of three youth group teachers. Her passion to help and coach others is deeply rooted in a belief that if I "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." By teaching the foundation of health and wellbeing, I can empower others to in turn take care of themselves, not just in the short term but also in a way that they can become the best version of themselves. Life is short so why spend time not being the best.

Dr. Luxeder has been practicing chiropractic in Clinton since 2007. She completed her chiropractic education in 2005 at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa where she was on the Dean's list and a Presidential Ambassador to future students. Dr. Luxeder is Board Certified by the National Chiropractic Board of Chiropractic Examiners and performs minimally invasive and complex, chiropractic care. In addition, Dr. Luxeder is certified in the use of the ProAdjuster instrument which provides chiropractic adjustments without the twisting and turning. Dr. Luxeder is continuously involved in the ongoing development of the chiropractic profession and its usefulness.

I was born and raised as 1 of 6 children on a farm in Illinois. At an early age I became interested in the human nervous and musculoskeletal systems. When I was in high school I suffered from a football injury to the neck and listening to the advice of my parents I sought help from a chiropractor.

The concept of achieving health naturally and actually removing the cause of the problem fascinated me. With the removal of my neck pain and with an overall improvement of my health I moved from being fascinated about chiropractic to being committed to chiropractic … for life.

My wife and I have 3 children that are active in all sports. I believe in living a healthy and balanced lifestyle, I also believe that educating ourselves leads to empowerment. Those beliefs spill over into the care that I give my patients. When you come in for care you can be assured that I will treat you with the same care and commitment that I give my family. I will not only address your health concerns but I'll also strive to guide you so that you will be able to take control of your own health and wellness. I look forward to working with you to maximize your health.

Dr. Mary King

DC / Chiropractor

Dr. Mary King is a chiropractic physician who is proud to serve her community as a family chiropractor. Dr. King graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in 2005. She has two active licenses in the states of North Carolina and Arizona. She has served as an Assistant Professor at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences (now Sonoran University) in Arizona for over 7 years, where she taught first-year medical students anatomy, embryology, cell biology, and neuroanatomy. She served Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Paradise Valley, Arizona, for over 10 years with chiropractic care and lifestyle success strategies.

Dr. King utilizes her seasoned skills of chiropractic care and spinal rehabilitation therapy to improve the spinal health and wellness of her patients' activities of daily living. She directs her treatments to establish functional improvements that are designed to reach goals that yield improvement of the specific patient concerns and produce results that keep in mind longevity, organ system function, and overall spinal health. Dr. King takes a "whole person" approach in chiropractic care, which means diagnosing the underlying causes of disease, discomfort, and pain, as opposed to just treating the symptoms. Many seemingly unrelated symptoms often arise from imbalances in the spinal column.

Dr. King has experience treating children from birth to adolescence as well as prenatal and postnatal care. She utilizes the Webster technique as she determines and diagnoses the root cause of the condition that causes dysfunction and creates a personalized care plan to accommodate each patient's individual needs.

Dr. King has served the North Carolina communities since moving to the area in 2016, with her passion to help each patient reach their health goals without prescription drugs or surgery. She is passionate about helping to end the opioid epidemic affecting North Carolinians. She is a member of the NHRMC "Reframe Pain Campaign", an initiative to end the opioid epidemic in Wilmington, NC, and surrounding areas. Dr. King also serves on the Health Network Solutions Professional Affairs Advisory Board, with a mission to make healthcare more accessible, effective, and affordable, and to review best practice measures within the NC Chiropractic profession.

Dr. King is married to her husband, who is a retired US Marine of over 21 years. They have three young children, Madeline, Magnolia, and Maisie. She has a passion to treat military families with the utmost care to help alleviate the challenges of active duty for both service members and their families. In Dr. King's spare time, you can find her at the beach supporting her girls in their surfing and outdoor adventures. She has a passion for road bike cycling, watercolor painting, and playing with their family dog Maverick.

A familiar face is back in Wilmington. Dr. Ryan Graybar was born in Wilmington, NC and spent most of his childhood in the close-knit community of Wallace. He graduated from Wallace Rose Hill High School in 2017 and continued his education and golf career at Cape Fear Community College for the next two years. Once he graduated with his Associate of Science, he transferred to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. While earning his undergraduate degree, he developed a passion for chiropractic care as he worked in the Graybar Chiropractic Wilmington location as a chiropractic assistant from 2019-2021.

Immersed in chiropractic care from a young age, Dr. Graybar has been able to see, hear, and experience himself, that chiropractors change and shape lives in his community. Being able to see the impact of his father, Dr. Michael Graybar, and the many doctors he has been around since he was a child, Dr. Ryan Graybar sees these individuals as role models that inspired him to pursue a career as a chiropractor himself. He attended Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC earning his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2024. While in chiropractic school, he developed a passion for pediatric care as he experienced how chiropractic care has benefited him since birth. Throughout his ICPA fellowship, he now has a deeper knowledge of adjusting infants, toddlers, and pregnant women.

Crystal Ward

Crystal Ward

Chief Operations Officer

My name is Crystal Ward; I was born and raised in my little hometown of Wallace, NC. I am a graduate of Wallace Rosehill high school. My chiropractic story began when I accidentally decided to apply for a chiropractic therapy assistant job in 1995. It was during my short tenure with Dr. Graybar and Southeastern Healthcare that I developed a simple understanding of chiropractic care. During my time with SEHC, our primary emphasis was pain management of the spine.

In 2003, Dr. Graybar decided to open his own chiropractic office. I could tell immediately that he was pursuing a much greater purpose and understanding of the true power of chiropractic. I will tell you as his practice grew, my roles changed as well. I am proud to announce that I am the Chief Operations Officer of our entire team. I am grateful and blessed to assist Dr. Graybar in the team management and daily operations of all three clinics.

I am inspired every day to see our involvement within the community and the standards of healthcare that our team is pursuing. Our premise is simple: We believe that the families that are involved with our practices are happier, healthier, and safer than those that are not. It will continue to be my goal to expand the vision of lifetime wellness for our practices.

Chris Libert

Chris Libert

Director of Business Relations

We're thrilled to welcome Chris Libert back to Wilmington as our Director of Business Relations. Chris brings with him a deep passion for community, sports, and wellness. Originally from Northern Virginia, Chris made his way south to attend East Carolina University, where he played Division I soccer and earned both his Bachelor's in Recreation and Leisure Management and a Master's in Exercise and Sports Science. During his collegiate years, he was honored twice as a Colonial Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete—balancing academics and athletics with excellence.

Chris's love for soccer extended well beyond college. He played professionally with the Eastern Shore Sharks (USISL) in Maryland and the Cocoa Expos (PDL) in Florida. His journey eventually led him to the administrative and coaching sides of the sport, serving as General Manager and Director of Soccer Operations for the Wilmington Hammerheads during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. He later returned to the sidelines as an assistant and goalkeeping coach in 2006 and 2007, and shared his passion for the game as a play-by-play/color commentator for Hammerheads LIVE from 2012 to 2017. He has coached in many youth organizations as well as in the collegiate and professional ranks and received the NCSAA "National Coaches License" in 1996. He has coached many years with several local clubs and the North Carolina Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.

Chris's dedication to sports and the Wilmington community continued during his time at Cape Fear Community College, where he served as Assistant Director of Athletics for Student Activities and Community Relations from 2005 to 2021. He coached the CFCC Women's Soccer team for seven seasons and the Men's team for three, earning the Region 10 "Coach of the Year" title an impressive six times.

Through his athletic journey, Chris faced a few injuries that led him to Graybar Chiropractic. After 15 years as a dedicated patient, he found that his experience as an athlete and coach aligned naturally with the office's mission of promoting healthy, active, and pain-free living.

Chris credits his late father, John Libert, as his greatest inspiration. John was a lifelong educator and coach, balancing a career in architecture while coaching high school and college track for over 57 years. He was still coaching practices at the age of 81, just two weeks before he passed away in 2016—a legacy that continues to motivate Chris every day.

As our Director of Business Relations, Chris will focus on community outreach, patient advocacy, marketing, and event coordination. He'll also play a key role in organizing educational talks and building partnerships throughout the area.

Outside of work, you'll likely find Chris enjoying the great outdoors—whether it's biking, walking, or soaking up the sun on the beach. His enthusiasm for life, health, and community is contagious, and we're excited for what's ahead with Chris back in Wilmington.
