Disc Injury
Overview
Understanding Your Condition
A disc injury refers to damage to one or more of the intervertebral discs, the cushions between the vertebrae. These injuries can cause significant pain and may affect the neck (cervical), upper back (thoracic), or lower back (lumbar). They often result from degeneration, trauma, or overuse, ranging from mild discomfort to debilitating pain.

Causes & Types
- Herniated disc (slipped/ruptured): inner gel-like nucleus protrudes through a tear, compressing nearby nerves.
- Bulging disc: outer layer protrudes outward while inner nucleus stays contained.
- Degenerative disc disease: gradual wear and tear, losing flexibility, elasticity, and height.
- Disc tear (annular tear): tear in the outer ring that can cause pain and lead to herniation.
- Age-related degeneration
- Trauma from accidents, falls, or heavy lifting
- Repetitive strain
- Poor posture
- Genetics / family history
Common Symptoms
- Localized pain that can radiate to the arms or legs.
- Numbness and tingling in the limbs from nerve compression.
- Muscle weakness affecting mobility and coordination.
- Reduced range of motion and stiffness.
How We Can Help
- Chiropractic adjustments to restore proper spinal alignment and reduce nerve pressure.
- Non-surgical spinal decompression therapy to relieve pressure on herniated or bulging discs.
- MLS Laser Therapy to reduce inflammation and promote tissue healing.
- Targeted therapeutic exercises to strengthen the core and supporting muscles.
- Posture correction and ergonomic guidance to prevent re-injury.
Prevention & Management
- Practice proper lifting techniques — lift with the legs, not the back.
- Maintain strong core muscles to support the spine.
- Avoid prolonged sitting; take frequent movement breaks.
- Stay hydrated to keep discs healthy and flexible.
- Use ergonomic seating and posture at work.
