Plantar Fasciitis

Overview

Understanding Your Condition

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue along the bottom of the foot connecting the heel bone to the toes. It causes heel pain and discomfort, especially with the first steps in the morning, and results from repetitive strain or overuse causing micro-tears and irritation.

Plantar Fasciitis

Causes & Types

  • Overuse or repetitive strain from running, jumping, or prolonged standing.
  • Foot structure: flat feet, high arches, or abnormal gait.
  • Tightness in calf muscles or the Achilles tendon.
  • Obesity or sudden weight gain.
  • Improper footwear with poor arch support or cushioning.
  • Age (most common in adults 40-60).
  • Occupations requiring prolonged standing or walking on hard surfaces.

Common Symptoms

  • Heel pain on the underside, worse in the morning or after rest.
  • Pain with activity that may ease then return after prolonged standing.
  • Stiffness and discomfort after periods of rest.
  • Tenderness on the bottom of the foot.

How We Can Help

  • Chiropractic adjustments to improve foot, ankle, and lower extremity alignment.
  • Soft tissue therapy to release tight calf and plantar fascia.
  • MLS Laser Therapy to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
  • Stretching and strengthening exercises for the foot and calf.
  • Footwear and orthotic recommendations.

Prevention & Management

  • Wear supportive footwear with good arch support.
  • Stretch the calves and plantar fascia daily.
  • Avoid going barefoot on hard surfaces.
  • Gradually increase activity intensity.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
